What
is CASA MC?
Court
Appointed Special Advocates of Mesa County (CASA-MC), recruits, screens,
and trains volunteers to speak in court on behalf of children who are
abused, neglected or abandoned by their families. These volunteers are
the eyes and ears of the Judge. Judges, make the final decision of where
a child will live. Will the child be returned to the parent or will
parental rights be terminated and the child be placed for adoption. This
decision is influenced by the information the volunteer provides to a
Judge and could be a major determining factor in the future of that
child. No legal or other special background is required of CASA-MC
volunteers. CASA-MC has been in existence since 1998 and served 143
children, 48% of which were under the age of five or younger. In 1999
our volunteers contributed 4,732 hours to these children. Half of these
generous volunteers work full-time jobs, but care enough about the
children in our community to give their time.
